  • STURDY | Drum weights about 7.7 pounds empty.  Blow molded High Molecular Weight - High Density PolyEthylene (HMW-HDPE)
  • COMPLIANT | In industry language... made from FDA compliant materials.  For the rest of us that means food grade.
  • EFFICIENT | Flat side panels improve storage density.  Panels are never truly flat and some swelling is to be expected but the storage options are much cleaner than with round drums.
  • STACKABLE | The manufacturer says stackable to 4 high maximum with appropriate quality pallets in between drums and a max load on a drum of 800 lbs.  We say be careful stacking and suggest not going more than 2 high.  Suggest solid pallet surfaces to distribute load.  Stabilize against movement and to avoid hazards.  Do not climb or stand on drums.  Drums do not interlock.
  • DIMENSIONS | About 15.3" square by 20" tall.  Manufacturer specification minimum thickness is 0.075 inches.
  • VOLUME | 15 gallon nominal.  About 16.3 gallons typical actual volume.
  • FITTINGS | One 2" NPS and one 3/4" NPS.  (NPS = National  Pipe Straight Thread)

We like this drum.  FDA compliant HDPE in a high light-transmission-reducing black for those water storage applications.  ...and they say black goes with everything.  These drums feel solid and handle like a quality piece of gear.  The handles on our conventional round 15 and 20 gallon drums are for empty use only but the fixed handle on this square drum is strong.  We would not hesitate to use it to help muscle around a full drum.  No specifications for use on their sides but we like the ability to lay it down and use a spigot without the drum rolling away on us like a round drum will.  If you determine for yourself that you are comfortable using on it's side we would advise not loading or stacking in that orientation.  If using it on it's side you can use commonly available 2" fittings with 3/4" center threads for a spigot and the 3/4" fitting as a vent or the other way around... use a spigot in the 3/4" port and use the 2" fitting as a vent.  The industry standard is that the packager, you, determines if the container is suitable for the application.  With anything other than water you will want to determine the chemical, weight, handling, etc. compatibility for your application.  As a reference for your industrial applications, the manufacturer advises a maximum fill temperature of ~160 degrees F.  When filling at elevated temperatures always 1] allow to cool fully prior to stacking and 2] vent properly to prevent vacuum formation within the drum.  The manufacturer further states the drums are designed for the safe and efficient storage and transportation of various products, including hazardous and non hazardous  materials.  These drums are made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), ensuring durability and resistance to chemicals and environmental factors.  (...but remember what we say about the "packager" testing and determining suitability for any particular application).
